La Vie En Rose

Food here is so good.

I can’t stress that enough.

Most of the time we were in Spain I felt hungry, but here…everything is good.

Nothing I’ve eaten since I’ve been here has even been just okay.

Breakfast was at Cafe Livre, an old favorite spot of Henry’s where we decided to split a breakfast.  After watching him hungrily devour most of the eggs while I slowly ate my baguette toast (when has bread ever tasted this good?! seriously!) I told him that from here on out we probably shouldn’t share meals.  If I’m going to learn to love eggs anywhere, it’ll probably be in France.

After breakfast we took a train over to the Eiffel Tower and did that whole thing.

The top was closed so we decided to go check the next thing off our Paris list.  Oh, did I mention that we made lists?  We actually planned ahead of time and wrote out all the things we wanted to see?  It’s like we’re getting better at traveling or something.  Henry took us up half a million stairs on our way to the Champs-Elysées where we looked in all the windows of the stores we couldn’t afford before going to spend some time staring at the Arc de Triomph.

We went and had some falafels for dinner and I kept to myself some pride on being a much less picky eater than I was last time I was here.  I, of course, did not say so out loud to Henry as he is astonished still at what he considers to be picky—he wasn’t around to know my 10 year old self’s self-imposed dietary restrictions.

A while ago, probably about maybe a week and a half of sending home all of our clothes and wearing the same pants and two shirts, we decided that at some point on our trip we would get a semi-fancy something to wear and then take ourselves out for fancy date night.  We found a few vintage/thrift stores and rummaged around and commiserated at our lack of luck with these desert crepes that we didn’t even like at all.  (I could have easily eaten five or six more…)

Later that night we climbed a million more stairs to check out the incredible view at Sacre Coeur—it was more than worth the hike up.  A minute or two after we reached the top, the Eiffel Tower glittered for us and shone a light around the city.  A rapper was filming a music video in front of the city and the two of us walked into the church.  We walked quietly where we could and I lit a candle and said a prayer before sitting down to take in some of the French mass.

As we left the magnificent cathedral, a lone accordion serenaded us with Le Vie En Rose while the stars twinkled and the moon shone.

All in all, not a bad night.
